The Alaska Native Media Group is accepting submissions for our inaugural publication. We’re looking for writing, photography, poetry and art created from an Alaska Native perspective. We will publish selected pieces in a book and online.

We're looking for work that expresses your Alaska Native perspective on any subject or theme. However, we are particularly interested in work focused on an Alaska Native you admire or think has made significant contributions to the community, especially those who’ve not received much recognition. This could be a family member, a friend or someone you’ve only heard stories about. Tell your story as if you were telling it to a friend. And don’t worry too much about making it perfect; we have volunteer editors who can help you.

If essays aren’t your thing, that’s okay. Below are a few guidelines for pieces we’ll also consider for publication. If your work doesn’t fall into any of these categories, don’t worry. Send us a message and we can talk about it.

If you submit previously published material, please include details about the publication where the material is featured. By submitting you give the Alaska Native Media Group permission to republish your material in print and electronically.

Photo essays may include up to 20 high-resolution images accompanied by a brief introduction (150-200 words). In your submission, however, please only include six images and any related written material (captions or accompanying text). Individual photos may also be considered, however, the image should tell a complete story.

Submitted images can be low-resolution — at least 5×7 at 72 ppi. If your work is selected, we will ask you to send the full set of high-resolution images.

Your piece may be up to 2,500 words. If space is available, we may consider publishing a longer piece (up to 5,000 words). You may submit up to five photos to accompany your writing. If you're writing about a person, please be sure to include their photo.

Please submit no more than six pieces.

Share up to five pieces of scanned or digital artwork. The resolution requirements for these are the same as those for photos*. Please tell us if you’d like your work — artwork or photos — to be considered for cover art.
